And who’d prefer cybersex to the real thing? While the Internet beckons brightly, seductively flashing an icon of knowledge-as-power, this nonplace lures us to surrender our time on earth. A poor substitute it is, this virtual reality where frustration is legion and where–in the holy names of Education and Progress–important aspects of human interactions are relentlessly devalued.

I remember this being quite the chuckle at uni. It’s still quite the chuckle and he’s not the only one to have had famous last words. I believe it was bill gates who told us that the windows operating system had no future beyond 2004. [ED. I couldn’t confirm this. Something I remember from high school and all this talk of education is making me feel old.]
